Atletico de Madrid's first team squad returned to the training ground on Monday and were forced to work out in thick fog at the club's installations in Majadahonda.

Radamel Falcao was not present for the session. He is in Zurich for this evening's FIFA Ballon d'Or awards ceremony where he is amongst the candidates for the FIFA Puskas award. Also absent were the players who were involved in Sunday's 1-1 daw against Mallorca at the Iberostar. The players who started that match were given a day's rest by Diego Pablo Simeone but those who watched the game from the subs' bench were taken through a rigorous, 90 minute workout with the rest of the squad.

Arda Turan and Joao Miranda, who both missed the Mallorca meeting due to suspension, trained with Emre Belozoglu out on practice pitch number 4 at Atlético's training complex.

The Argentine coach also drafted in youth team players Saúl and Óliver while Pedro, who travelled to Mallorca but didn't feature in the game, was back training with the B team.

Monday's session was centred on cardiovascular exercises and ball work and the morning was brought to a close with a mini-match on a reduced pitch.

The squad return to Majadahonda on Tuesday at the later time of 17:00 CET.
