Real Madrid: Looking for a new wingback and a new coach?

Strengthen in the winter break: that's what 63% of the participants in the internet survey believe Real Madrid need to do. And of those who believe a change is needed the top option, with 42%, is a new face as head coach. A new wingback is the next most popular choice, with 36%. Nearly 24,000 readers took part in the survey.

Only 8% of the fans are keen on the arrival of a new striker, 6% a new midfielder, 4% a new goalkeeper, 2% a winger and a mere 1% saw a central defender as a winter priority. These numbers give an idea of the level of satisfaction the supporters have with the players who currently occupy those positions.

Madrid's disastrous league form has graetly reduced Mourinho's popularity, although those demanding his replacement still do not form a clear majority. The desire for a new wingback arises from the lack of resources in this position since last season. With Sergio Ramos confirmed as having moved to the centre, Arbeloa has no back up on the right, and some of the supporters also consider that he lacks attacking ability. The left side is supposedly better covered but Marcelo broke a bone in his foot in October and is still to come back, whilst Fabio Coentrao has also suffered physical problems. These issues have led to midfielder Essien on occasions being asked to play as a wingback.

The desire for a new striker is a tiny minority, in spite of the fact that Higuaín has only scored seven league goals and is out injured, whilst Benzema is stuck on five. Just 4% are clamouring for a new keeper, in spite of Mou's doubts about Casillas.
