With only two games to go until the halfway point in the league season, Barcelona cannot be caught as 'winter champions'. Their lead over Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid is nine points, with nothing to suggest that 'los rojiblancos' can overturn Barça's superior goal-difference in the second half of the season. As for Real Madrid, they find themselves deep in crisis and 16 points behind their Catalan rivals. The league has now reached the point where it's undoubtedly Barcelona's title to lose - their only possible enemy is themselves.
The figures posted by Tito Vilanova's men simply leave no room for argument. After 17 matches, they have won 16 and drawn one, with 49 points out of a possible 51. Two games still remain to be played in the first half of the season, meaning that the men from the Camp Nou are on course to overhaul Madrid's record total of 100 points.
Goals. Barcelona not only entertain aspirations of beating the points record. The highest ever goal tally, currently at 121, is also in grave danger; so far this season, 'los blaugrana' have scored 57 goals (curiously, 16 ahead of Madrid once more). Barcelona are well placed to make history in 2013 - only time will tell if they do.
