Rayo president, Raúl Martin Presa, was at the Vicente Calderón stadium yesterday, talking through the agreement his club has with Atlético to sign Leo Baptistao in the summer. This newspaper revealed the existence of that deal back on 5 December. The rising star of Vallecas has the sporting executives at Atleti excited and they moved to get something in writing to see the player in red and white stripes in 2013/2014. The amounts are still to be worked out and it is thought that Martín Presa was discussing money with the 'colchoneros' amongst other things.

The player has a buy out clause of eight million euros, however it is thought Atlético would pay between four and six million, depending on the players Atlético could include in the deal. Rayo will be keeping a close eye on players who may be surplus to requirements at Atleti for next season. The team from Vallecas may also be interested in loan deals for some of the up and coming youngsters at the Calderón (Saúl, Manquillo, Óliver) as part payment for Baptistao.

For the moment there is to be no official announcement of the deal, as the player is fully focused on Rayo. The Brazilian has been a key player in Paco Jemez's line up this season, with Rayo doing better than might be expected for a club with such modest resources. Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson's brother was on spying mission recently to watch the rising star.
