Karim Benzema is currently the main target man for Real Madrid, especially given the long lay off suffered by Higuaín due to injury. The new year appears to be treating Real Madrid well, something that the Frenchman was keen to underline. "We've started the year well, with two wins, which is important. Although the games were tough we played well and we won, which is fundamental", said Benzema.

The last few months have not been particularly easy for the Real Madrid players, given the results in the league, but Benzema said that he would use this to his advantage, because "pressure brings out the best in me", he said. "I like it, because it is part of being a footballer, and at Real Madrid there is a lot of it about!"

The French national team is one of the main challenges for Benzema, who is focused on winning a world cup, despite the outstanding recent form of France's neighbours Spain. "Of course, it would be a dream to win the World Cup with France, but first we have to qualify. If we do that, then we go to Brazil, where we will try to win it", said the Frenchman positively.

As to this weekend's game away to Osasuna, Benzema recognised how difficult a ground it is, with the fans putting the pressure on the away team. "We know it will be a tough game, like every year, but we have to win there, we'll do it, because we want to keep adding points", he said.
