The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has all but ruled out that Brazil will hire Pep Guardiola as their next coach.
The Catalan has been linked with the job ever since Mano Menezes was sacked last week, but José María Marín explained it would be "difficult" to employ him, or any other non-Brazilian coach.
"It's difficult to imagine our next coach being a foreigner," he said. "I have the utmost respect for Guardiola but Brazil won five World Cups with Brazilian coaches."
Marín confirmed he had still not spoken to any candidate yet, and restated that a decision would be announced at a press conference in the first week of January.
He declared the new coach would have to be "a proven winner" so that he can lead 'A Seleção' to win the 2014 World Cup, which will be played in Brazil.
The national press believe there are four main candidates for the job: Santos coach Muricy Ramalho; Corinthians coach Tite; Felipe Scolari, who won the World Cup for Brazil as coach in 2002 but is currently without a job; and Fluminese boss Abel Braga.
Leading Brazilian sports newspaper Lance has begun a campaign in favour of making Guardiola the coach, and has put the former Barcelona boss on their front cover every day since Menezes was sacked last Friday.
