The widespread praise of David De Gea after his performance in the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday is still gathering pace in Manchester. The latest player to join in was Michael Carrick, one of the veterans in the United squad, who said: "De Gea kept us in the game."
"There is no bigger pressure cooker really than this stage of the Champions League and coming to a place like the Bernabéu. He was coming back home as well, so there was an extra spotlight on him. Some of his saves kept us in the game at times. It just showed what he is all about," Carrick said.
De Gea has also received a considerable amount of criticism since arriving at Manchester United. "It's never nice when people question you but that is natural at a club like Manchester United," he said. "You're always getting questioned. That's just how it is and you have to deal with it. He is a top keeper and is only going to get better. To play at this club at such a young age and have so much on your shoulders, says enough on its own."
