Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to pay 22 million pounds to bring Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric back to England this summer, according to 'The Sun'.
Modric has struggled to break into José Mourinho's team since he joined 'Los Blancos' in the summer and has not managed to produce the same level of football as when he was playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He is also believed to be struggling to adapt to life in Spain, and may listen to offers from other clubs, and there is no shortage of suitors.
Chelsea tried to sign the Croatia international from Tottenham in 2011 for 40 million pounds but then Spurs' coach Harry Redknapp refused to let him go.
Chelsea have lost out on signing Brazilian midfielder Taison, who joined Shakhtar Donetsk from Metalist Kharkiv on Friday, and now the Blues are focusing their attention on Modric again.
Abramovich is waiting for the right time to make an offer for Modric, and may take advantage of the speculation that José Mourinho is set to leave Madrid at the end of the season to sign the Croatian.
Modric is seen as the ideal replacement for Frank Lampard, who will leave Stamford Bridge in the summer when his contract expires.
