Cristiano Ronaldo has made a public statement for the first time since he was elbowed in the face by David Navarro last Sunday during Real Madrid's match with Levante.
The Portuguese was struck in just the second minute of the game, and needed to be seen to by club doctors on the side of the pitch. He returned to the field of play after five minutes and even scored Real Madrid's opening goal of the game, but had to be substituted at half-time after losing vision in both eyes.
Ronaldo uploaded a photo of himself on Facebook on Tuesday, sporting a plaster above his left eye, and wrote the following message to his followers.
"Thanks for the messages you have sent me in the last few days. I feel much better and I hope I'll be able to make a 100% recovery."
Ronaldo was allowed to sit out Portugal's friendly with Gabon on Wednesday and has spent the last few days relaxing. He is expected to be available for Real Madrid's game with Athletic Bilbao next Saturday.
