Cristiano Ronaldo has told The Sun that he wants Spain to win the European Chamipionships, despite the fact that 'La Roja' knocked his Portugal side out of the tournament on Thursday.

Ronaldo appeared devastated after the defeat, and left the pitch shouting "How unjust! How unjust!" However, the Real Madrid forward has made it clear he bears no grudges towards his Madrid team-mates and the rest of the Spain players, many of whom he considers to be his friends.

"I hope Spain win the tournament now we are out, because I have a lot of friends in the team. We're not friends on the pitch but off the pitch we get on really well. Penalties are a lottery and they were lucky to go through, but I congratulate them."

Ronaldo also explained that it was Portugal boss Paulo Bento who made the decision for him to take the fifth penalty, which resulted in the Real Madrid striker not taking a penalty in the end, as Spain won the shoot-out 4-2.

"He said to me 'Do you want to take the fifth penalty?' and I said yes. Sometimes I take the first penalty, the second or the third, but I agreed to take the fifth. It was nothing to do with the fact I missed against Bayern, I had no demons I was hiding from. I would have scored the fifth."
