According to reports in the British newspaper the Daily Mail, Premier League club Arsenal are preparing a bid to sign Barcelona striker David Villa on loan during the January transfer window. It is believed that Gunners manager Arséne Wenger has already discussed the move with his backroom team, and is also refusing to rule out the possibility of a move to sign the 31-year-old Spaniard permanently.
The potential availability of a top-level striker such as Villa appears to have swayed the Frenchman from his policy of not signing players over the age of 30. Another significant factor is the forward's peripheral role at the Camp Nou since returning from long-term injury.
Villa has made only 11 league appearances this season, and has so far failed to play the full 90 minutes. Despite this, he has scored five times in La Liga. In the Champions League he has played five times, completing a full match on only one occasion.
The plan at Arsenal is to sign the player on loan during the transfer window with the option of making the deal permanent in the future. The London club has suffered problems in front of goal all season - a situation highlighted by the fact that midfielder Santi Cazorla is the outfit's top scorer with seven goals.
Monitor finances, choose your signings wisely, select the best strategy, and face off friends to become the best manager in the world.
