Diego is settling back into life at VfL Wolfsburg but the playmaker says he will never forget his time at Atlético. The Brazilian admits that he is pleasantly surprised at the Rojiblancos' impressive campaign so far. "I have great memories of my time at Atleti," he told AS, "The team is having a brilliant season. They are streaking ahead of all of their rivals in the table and they have to keep up the good work they have been doing up until now".
Diego is currently in Antalya, Turkey where Wolfsburg are temporarily based to avoid the harsh weather conditions back home in Germany. He says he is thrilled at the way Arda Turan has slotted into his previous role with Simeone's side. "He is playing perfectly. Arda is a very creative player - and there are not many players like him around".
Regarding recent comments from Arda's agent that the player is considering moving on at the end of the season and with Liverpool and Arsenal both reported to be interested - possibly in a winter transfer window capture, Diego insisted, "Arda should continue at Atlético. If he leaves, I think he will be making a mistake".
As far as his own future is concerned, Diego says he is quite happy where he is. "All that counts for me is my club - Wolfsburg. I have heard rumours about a reported interest from Galatasaray but I can't see any possibility of that happened and besides, I am not even thinking about a transfer during this inscription period. I am under contract with Wolfsburg - that is the club I belong to".
Now a key figure in the Wolfsburg set-up once more, Diego is back at his best. The player surprised everyone by resolving his differences with Felix Magath in August and has gone from strength to strength since the coach's dismissal at the end of October. Under Magath, Diego failed to find the net or even provide a single assist for his team mates. Yet two days after the coach bid farewell, he scored one and set up another two in the 4-1 win over Fortuna Düsseldorf. Since then, he scored another three goals and provided two assists in the Bundesliga.
