After the disappointing defeat to AC Milan on Wednesday night, Barcelona woke up to the good news that Eric Abidal has been given the all clear by doctors to start playing competitive football again.
The French defender is available to play for Barça from now until the end of the season, now that he has fully recovered after undergoing a liver transplant last April.
However, Abidal will not necessarily return automatically to Barça's squad for matches, and the club's coaches will determine when he is to start playing again.
Abidal received the transplant on 10 April last year and was inactive for several months, before beginning a steady recovery in the autumn. He has been training with the first team squad since December 20, apart from several days spent in hospital at the start of February to monitor his progress since the operation.
He is now in the final stage of his recovery, and once Barcelona inform the LFP that he has been given the all clear, there will be nothing stopping him from playing again.
