In the next few hours Bulgarian winger Martín Petrov could become Espanyol's first signing in the January transfer window, according to sources at the Catalan club.
Espanyol hope to reach an agreement with the player and his representatives in time for him to take his medical on Monday at the club's training ground and then join his new team-mates for training later that day.
Petrov has spent the last three seasons with Bolton Wanderers, who have been playing in the English second division, known as the Championship, since August.
If he completes the move, Petrov will join Espanyol for free and until the end of the season, and will be reunited with Javier Aguirre, who was his coach at Atlético Madrid, until the player joined Manchester City in the summer of 2007.
