Karim Benzema has lost the support of a large section of French football fans after last night's defeat to Germany (1-2). Prestigious sports newspaper L'Equipe carried out a poll on its website today which asked the following question: "Should Benzema continue as the main starting striker for France?"
The answer was clear, with 78% of the 40,000 people who voted choosing to ditch the Real Madrid target man. 19% would continue to back him, whilst 3% preferred not to offer an opinion.
Benzema started last night in Paris and his action led directly to the French goal, shooting against the crossbar. However he subsequently generated little threat and the power of Khedira and Özil took the game away from France.
