Cristiano Ronaldo didn't celebrate either of his goals against Granada in the 3-0 win for Real Madrid tonight and then gave an unsettling, if cryptic, explanation: "I'm sad, and the people at the club know it. That's why I didn't celebrate the goals. It's about professional issues". "I can't say any more", he said later and didn't say whether his sadness was temporary: "We'll see".

The Portuguese forward did deny that his emotional distress has anything to do with not winning the UEFA Best Player in Europe award. "It wouldn't have surprised me to win it, just as it didn't surprise me not to. Iniesta deserved it", said Portugal's most valuable player.

Cristiano was substituted in the 64th minute in tonight's game after a heavy challenge from Borja Gómez, for which the Granada player received his second yellow card. After coming off the Madrid player was in obvious discomfort and sat on the bench with an ice pack on the injured leg. With 10 minutes to go he headed for the changing rooms.

Cristiano has been called up to play for Portugal in their two World Cup qualifying games. On 7 September they play in Luxembourg and on 10 September at home against Azerbaijan. He has an area of bruising on the left leg and will be a doubt for both fixtures. "I'm not ok, but I'll go with Portugal and see if in a couple of days I'm better, because I want to play in these important games for my country".

Cristiano reached 150 goals for his club today, but didn't see fit to celebrate despite his brace. "I'm happy for my striking run, but the most important thing is the team. We got the win and for us the League starts today".
