Levante beat Deportivo La Coruña 2-0 with their direct football to go fourth in the league table, while adding to the Galicians off the pitch woes.
Depor are a club low on luck at the moment - they have had an embargo on all income imposed on them by the Spanish tax authorities and remain in the relegation zone after the defeat, in which they lost their two centre-backs Marchena and Zé Castro to injury, missed a penalty and had to play the final 20 minutes with a midfielder in goal after Dani Aranzubia was sent off.
Deportivo fans formed a human chain before the game to show their solidarity with the club in the face of adversity, but it did little to help their team's fortunes. Obafemi Martins gave the visitors the lead five minutes before half-time, chasing a long punt up the field from Munua and then showing composure when facing down Deport goalkeeper Aranzubia
A handball by Pedro Lopez in the box early in the second half presented the hosts with the perfect opportunity to get back in the game, but Riki blazed over the bar. Lopez was given a second yellow card for the incident but Depor could not make the extra man advantage count, and then had Aranzubia sent off for a second yellow card, and as coach José Luis Oltra had already made his three changes, Álex Bergantiños had to go in goal for the final 20 minutes.
Riki and Ayoze both had chances to equalise before Barkero sealed the points for Levante with eight minutes to go with a shot from the edge of the area.
