Diego Armando Maradona looks set to continue his travels around Asia as tomorrow he could become the new coach of Iraq, according to 'Canchallena'. The deal will be finalised once it is approved by the Iraqi Football Federation, with Maradona looking to lead them into their second World Cup competition.
"The offer was there, we contacted Diego and he accepted. This Friday the board of directors of the Iraqi Football Association will meet to discuss the salary conditions," Hernán Tofoni said, an agent from the company World Eleven.
"The president of the Iraq Football Association has called a meeting between the board of directors on Friday to formalise the salary conditions and ensure that Diego will be the new Trainer before the end of 2012," Hernán Tofoni added.
His starting date is already a source of speculation - it would be on 6 February in Baghdad against Indonesia in a friendly match. Iraq currently lie in third position in their qualification group, but have to finish at least second if they want to qualify automatically. The first official game will be against Oman.
