While Leo Messi kept firing in the goals at Camp Nou last night, the history archives were frantically being revised as has been the case in previous seasons during the Argentinean's time at Barcelona. He hit four goals past Osasuna - and it could have been more but those four goals were enough to reset a couple of the all-time entries in Spanish football history books.

Probably even without realizing it, Messi became the youngest player ever to reach 200 goals in Spain's top flight. After last night, his tally stands at 201 and he has achieved that landmark aged 25 years and 217 days to surpass Zarra - who hit the magical 200-mark aged 29 years and 352 days and former Real Madrid captain Raúl, who had to wait a little longer (30 years and 255 days) for his double century.

Messi joins an elite group of eight players who have scored 200 goals or more, including: Zara (251), Hugo Sánchez (234), Raúl (228), Di Stéfano (227), César (224), Quini (219) and Pahíño (210).

The Barça number 10 is also the only player to have scored in 11 consecutive league matches in the Spanish competition. Against Osasuna he broke the record jointly shared by Ronaldo Nazário (1996/7) and Mariano Martín (1942/3) - both set with Barça.

If he continues this impressive run of form, these won't be the only records that Messi smashes this season.
