COPA DEL REY | ALCOYANO - REAL MADRID

"Castilla use a different model and that's not good for the players"

José Mourinho didn't want to continue the debate about the Ballon d'Or, and defended Cristiano's attitude in Palma: "It's not easy for a player to be insulted every match he plays away from the Bernabéu."

José Mourinho praised Cristiano Ronaldo's attitude during the Liga game away to Mallorca, where he was repeatedly taunted by supporters. The coach said he regrets that Real Madrid Castilla play with a different system to that of the first team, but reiterated that his relationship with Alberto Toril is fine. "Everybody has their independence."

Cristiano's attitude: "I don't think what I say is going to change anything. That's how it is. I suppose it's not easy for a player to be insulted during every match he plays away from the Bernabéu. The main thing is that he doesn't respond with insults or by being rude himself. You can criticize some of his reactions, but I've never seen Cristiano answer rudeness with rudeness."

Ballon d'Or: "For me, the matter is closed, as well as the campaign about who deserves to win. Now we've come to a time when you have to respect the people who are going to vote. And we'll respect the final result. For me the biggest thing is winning matches."

Fabinho's place and Nacho's position: "Fabinho is a player of the age that Castilla players should be. If a 23 or 24-year-old player hasn't got the ability to get into the Real Madrid squad, he's not going to get there at 26, 27 or 28. If he's younger, you're waiting for him to finish the process of development to be able to come into the team. Fabinho is in that position of coming in, or not. Just like José Rodríguez and Álex. They have the potential and the age to become a fixture in the first team. The criticism that people give me doesn't make sense because I'm the champion of debutants. From 1999 to 2003, 17 players made debuts with the first team: Aranda, Zárate, Miñambres, Raúl Bravo, Pavón, Portillo, Valdo, Rubén... Of all of them, the ones who've had the best career have been Raúl Bravo and Pavón. Later on, with Mr. Pellegrini, three young players debuted, with a total of nine minutes between them. Before that, Miguel Torres had 25 matches. And before that, Riki, Núñez... It wasn't me who broke with this tradition. I want players who make their debuts and play in the first team, not players to make the list longer. I have this record with almost 30 players that have made their debuts."

His relationship with Toril: "The relationship is fine. I do my work in the first team and he does his in the second team. I have three players that he can use. It's positive for both of us, to have the chance to have Jesús, Nacho and Morata, and for me it's also positive that they have minutes. This cooperation with three players is positive, but he has his independence. I think that's a good thing. We play with a different system; they have another model. There are Castilla players that play in positions that don't exist in the first team, like Jesé who plays nueve y medio ('nine and a half'). Also, our wide players play further forward and in Castilla it's a 4-4-2. That's not good for the players really..."

"... Toril knows everything that I've spoken to you about. He knows that with me, Nacho will never be a centre-back but he has his independence. He decides if it's more important to finish fourth, fifth or sixth in the Segunda or help a player to develop so he can come through to the first team."

The Copa del Rey match against Alcoyano: "It won't be easy to get a result there. It's never easy going somewhere where everybody's motivated, up for it and excited and going through. We want to progress. If we can win tomorrow, that's great but if we go back to the Bernabéu with an open result or a step away from going through, it won't be a problem. I respect the motivation of these teams. The ones that play for us won't have it easy."

Tomorrow's team: "I'm not naming Pepe, Ramos, Özil, Xabi or Cristiano. The others are on the team sheet because we don't have anyone else. You're not allowed to play with less than seven first team players. Despite the fact we have injuries and we don't have other players, we'll go with the ones that are there."

"Varane debuted here last year against Rayo. He hasn't made his debut this year. He's already played 10, 15 or 20 matches with the first team. It's a surprise for those that don't follow the team closely, but not for us."

Mourinho will do what ever it takes to make HIM LOOK GREAT nothing more. For such reason he is not looking for young Spanish talents, he is looking whom to buy from already top/developed and established players around the world. Real under Mourinho is wasting lots of talent.
