"It doesn't matter when you play Barcelona, they will always be top quality opponents. I think that form is irrelevant when you're playing against the best teams."

Real Madrid coach José Mourinho addressed the press the day before Madrid's crucial Copa del Rey semi-final second leg clash with Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

The Portuguese dismissed Barça assistant coach Jordi Roura's comments that referee Alberto Undiano was "permissive" of aggressive play, saying, with more than a hint of irony, that he would prefer "to remember the lessons we have been given from Barcelona in the past, sporting lessons, of how to act on the football pitch" and insisted that form and previous results would have no bearing on the match.

He also gave no hints away as to what his starting line up would be, but declared that Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema are now fit enough to play.

Are the team prepared for these vital 7 days? "These games are the ones the players love to play in, and I feel the same way about them. I prefer games of this dimension and difficulty. We've been waiting impatiently for these games to come round the Copa del Rey tie, the league Clásico and the Champions League tie."

Is now the perfect time to play Barcelona? "It doesn't matter when you play Barcelona, they will always be top quality opponents. We've played them in the summer and we've played them in the last few months of the season, now we are playing them in the middle of the season, it's not important when you play them. I think that form is irrelevant when you're playing against the best teams."

What will the starting XI be? Will Kaká play? "I don't know, it's not that I don't want to tell you, I just don't know. Normally I know what team I'm going to pick but I don't reveal it, this time I really don't know."

Xabi Alonso: "I think he will be able to play."

Benzema: "Benzema has trained with the team today and yesterday and I think he is fit enough to play."

Jordi Roura's comments on referee Undiano: "I'd prefer to remember the lessons we have been given from Barcelona in the past, sporting lessons, of how to act on the football pitch - never speaking about referees, never surround referees, never trying to get opponents sent off, never playacting.. And of course, lessons on how to play football, and how to play well. They should follow that example."

Madrid's positive results in the Camp Nou recently: "It's a one off game, it has nothing to do with previous matches. There has been a big time difference, the last time we played there was several months ago. We have to play in the best way and try and get the best possible result."

Guardiola sent people to spy on Piqué. Have you ever done this? "I'm a football coach, nothing else."

Would winning the Copa save the season? "We'll talk about that at the end of the season."

Would you take going out of the Copa del Rey if it meant qualifying for the next round of the Champions League?"There's no such thing as that in football. We have to play both matches. We can win one game, lose another or lose both."
