José Mourinho has revealed that he regrets poking Tito Vilanova in the eye during last year's Supercopa final between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The Real Madrid boss told Fox News:
"I shouldn't have done what I did, that's obvious. But I'm not an idiot who does things without thinking. There was a background story which lead to me losing control. I always work hard with my players in this area, on controlling emotions, focusing on just playing well and working hard. The person that messed up that day was me. Like Tito said a few weeks ago, the image will stay in people's minds forever. People always remember negative images.
But now there's no problem between him and me. When we saw each other after that game we said hello to each other. It's now in the past and now we have to try and make sure nothing like that happens again."
Mourinho spoke about two other topics during the interview: first Cristiano Ronaldo and then Madrid's objectives for the coming season.
Mourinho said of Ronaldo: "Two years ago Cristiano scored more goals than he did last year and won the Golden Boot but his team only won the Copa del Rey. For this reason they gave the Ballon d'Or to Messi. Last year Messi scored more goals but I don't think he deserves to win it. If he does win it, football will lose its collective essence."
The Portugese coach finished the interview by saying he thought it wouldn't be long before Real Madrid won another European Cup. He said: "Last year we were only knocked out of the champions league on penalties. We are not far away from winning it again, and when you are close, one day your time will come."
