Former Osasuna captain César Cruchaga has hit back at Athletic Bilbao forward Iker Muniain ahead of the clash between the Navarrans and the Basques on Saturday.

Muniain will miss the game due to suspension after he picked up a yellow card against Real Sociedad in the Basque derby at San Mamés, and after the game suggested that the referee who showed him the yellow card, the Pamplona-born Alberto Undiano Mallenco, wanted him to miss the match with Osasuna.

Muniain said: "We all know where Undiano comes from and who we are playing next week. If you stop and think about it, you will find the explanation."

However, Cruchaga, who played for Osasuna for 11 seasons between 1997 and 2009, hit back at Muniain's comments.

The former defender told radio station 'Cadena SER':

"Muniain has shat himself, he got the fifth yellow card on purpose because he didn't want to come to Pamplona. He's a bottler, he's not a real man."

"What he did last weekend was incredible," he continued.

"You can see it from a mile off - anyone who knows about football knows he forced that yellow card. And then he started complaining about the yellow card. If you don't want to go to Pamplona, then go and get a fifth yellow card, but then keep your mouth shut, but to try and cover this up by saying stuff about the referee is not on."
