It's not known whether Neymar will play in Europe before 2014. But what is clear is that the player is no longer repeating until he's blue in the face that he'll arrive at the World Cup in Brazil wearing a Santos shirt. Yesterday, after playing against New Zealand, Neymar admitted he wasn't sure when he would come to play on the Old Continent. Reports published in the last few days about Barcelona's interest in getting their hands on the player as soon as the Games are finished appears to have unsettled the striker. "Right now I don't when I'll go to play in Europe, but it's always been my dream and, I would say, my future", he said after Brazil beat New Zealand 3-0.

Just in case Santos have rushed to put a new contract before him, a second renewal in under a year. According to the Brazilian newspaper UOL Esporte, the Santos bosses want to renew his contract as soon as the Games are finished and keep their coach, Muricy Ramalho happy. He has been annoyed at the lack of new signings recently. The latest rumours from Brazil also put the signing of Juan Román Riquelme as being doubtful.

The idea is to extend Neymar's contract to 2016 or 2017 and put an end to the rumours coming out of Barcelona. The Brazilian international renewed his contract in December for an annual income of 5.5 million euros (being his Santos salary, plus amounts for promotional work).
