Valencia coach Mauricio Pellegrino has expressed his delight that Rafa Benítez has been appointed as the new Chelsea coach, and revealed that his friend and former colleague was desperate to return to coaching.
Benítez was Pellegrino's coach at Valencia and later Liverpool, and after the Argentine retired, he became the Spaniard's assistant coach at Liverpool and later at Inter Milan.
Pellegrino believes Benítez will be well suited to the job, pointing to his extensive knowledge of English football. Benítez spent six seasons in the Premier League with Liverpool, winning the FA Cup and the Champions League before being replaced by Roy Hodgson in summer 2010.
"Rafa couldn't wait to return to coaching," said Pellegrino.
"I'm delighted for him. Chelsea are a huge club and it's ideal for someone like Rafa, who knows the Premier League so well. Naturally, I wish him all the luck in the world," he added.
