Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura has emphasised that his team did not play as badly against Real Madrid as the 1-3 defeat suggests.
"We made a very good start to the game and had a number of chances but Madrid were very effective on the counter, tremendously effective, and then they were given a clear penalty," he said in his post-match press conference.
He added: "In the second half, when we were controlling the game more, they had another counter attack, which is their strong point. The third goal finished us off. We could have killed the tie off in the first leg, but we didn't, and these things happen."
Roura indicated that the defeat would prompt him and the Barça coaching staff to change tactics when they play AC Milan in two weeks time in the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.
"When you lose of course you think about changing things, and so we are thinking about playing in a different way against Milan, trying different things," he said.
Responding to the result: "We have to forget about the game as soon as possible, it's over now. I don't think Madrid were completely superior. The league is fundamental to us and we have to focus on that at the same time as preparing for the decisive game against Milan. We are understandably disappointed with the results against Milan and today, but we need to be optimistic, there's no need to criticise the team, we will move forward."
Referee:"The referees' decisions did not decide the result. We're not going to make excuses for ourselves. I made a comment, nothing else, it shoudn't have been taken so seriously."
Messi: "The first chance he had was very clear. If he'd have scored everything would have changed. When teams mark him well it makes a big difference, it's inevitable. He wants to play every game. We have days to get over this, we have to turn the page quickly."
Disappointment: "We have to thank the supporters. They have behaved in an exemplary manner while faced with a difficult result. I have no doubt that things will be different on Saturday."
Tito's influence:"We take decisions together during the games. We made decisions about the game with Tito, I don't want to have any autonomy, nor do I need it, I'm the second coach."
Team spirit:"You are always sad whenever you get knocked out of a tournament. The players want to win everything and they are low on morale at the moment. We have to try and recover from this as soon as possible. On Saturday we will try and continue our great run in the league. There is still time for the players to rise again from this disappointment."
Are the team too relaxed because of the lead they have at the top of the league?"We have been brilliant in the league and the huge advantage we have proves that, but I don't think it's affected us badly. The fact that we are so far ahead in the league gives us a sense of calm, but it's still not in the bag."
