The Santiago Bernabéu today completes 65 years of service to Real Madrid.
The first game at Real Madrid's current home took place on 14 December 1947, a friendly with Portuguese side Os Belenenses, and Madrid marked the occasion with a 3-1 win.
That day Sabino Barinaga became the first player to score at the stadium, while Chus Alonso later bagging a brace to secure the win.
First inaugurated as the Nuevo Estadio Chamartin, it was renamed the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in 1955 in honour of the then president, who gave the green light to its construction.
To this day Bernabéu is seen as one of the most important presidents of the club, presiding over Madrid's first six European Cups.
Current president Florentino Pérez has drawn up plans for the redevelopment of the stadium's facilities, with a view to making it into one of the most modern stadiums in the world and ensuring it remains the home of Madrid for many years to come.
