After the completion of the European Championship in Poland and Ukraine, Spain consolidated its number one spot in the FIFA rankings while their opponents in the final Italy rose six place to occupy the sixth position.

The new rankings have allowed for Euro 2012 and Oceanic Football Confederation's Nations Cup. Portugal and Germany, semi-finalists at the European Championship, also climb to fifth and second place respectively.

Other teams worthy of note are England, who rise to fourth; Greece, who go up three places to the 12th position, and the Czech Republic who are now at 18th. Host countries Poland, now 54th, and Ukraine, now 46th, also saw an improvement.

Among the teams who haven't fared so well are Holland, who go down four places to eighth after being eliminated in the group phase at Euro 2012 with zero points. Brazil also fall in the world standings, to 11th, their lowest position since the birth of the rankings in 1993.

Tahití, winners of that Oceanic Nation's Cup, rise 41 places to arrive at 138th. For their achievements, they'll feature in next year's Confederation's Cup in Brazil.

In recent weeks there have been a total of 133 matches involving national sides. That number includes 31 in the European Championship, 60 World Cup qualifiers, 15 African Nation's Cup qualifiers and 27 friendlies.

This means that of the 208 teams that make up the rankings, only 22 have stayed in the same position. 85 have risen, while 101 have moved down.
