Fernando Torres could return to his boyhood club Atlético Madrid next season, according to 'The Sunday Express'.

The British newspaper claims that, according to sources in Spain, 'Los Rojiblancos' will offer their prodigal son a chance to return to the Vicente Calderón next summer, on loan for the entirety of next season.

'El Nino' has often said that Atleti "will always be my club" and the paper believes he will be enthusiastic about the offer of returning home to the team where he shot to stardom and where the fans still adore him.

A source told the paper "Atlético still love Fernando and Fernando still loves Atlético".

With the arrival of Demba Ba at Chelsea in January and the likelihood that Romelu Lukaku will return to Stamford Bridge at the end of his season-long loan with West Bromwich Albion, Torres's place in the Blues' starting line-up is under threat.

And Roman Abramovich still dreams of bringing Radamel Falcao to Chelsea in the summer, a move which would surely lead to the Spaniard heading out the exit door at Stamford Bridge.

Torres still has a further three years left on his contract with the Blues, meaning a loan deal could prove ideal for him, should he be unwilling to abandon the West London club completely.

Atleti are not the only club interested in Torres, with Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Besiktas all keen on securing his services permanently.

Torres scored 75 goals for Atlético Madrid, an average of a goal in nearly every two games, a far better scoring record to what he has managed in his two years at Chelsea, whose supporters booed him off the pitch on Wednesday after the 0-2 defeat to Swansea in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.
