The 1-1 draw still hasn't stripped Real Madrid of their favourites tag in the last 16 Champions League tie against Manchester United. Nevertheless, the overwhelming popular belief held beforehand that 'los blancos' would be far superior has diminished.
For instance, BET365 still make Madrid favourites, with their progress through to the next round paid at 1.80 to United's 2.00. The betting house Miapuesta has the classification for Mourinho's men at 1.70, and Ferguson's side 2.00.
In terms of the specific predictions in the game, in BetFair a Man Utd victory at Old Trafford is paid at 2.80 and for Madrid 2.30. A draw (without specifying goals) is paid at 3.40. In Ladbrokes, a win for the Red Devils is paid at 2.50, a draw 3.50 and a Madrid win 2.50. Cirsa are also paying less for a Madrid win: 2.35. A win for Manchester United is paid at 2.75 and a draw at 3.45.
As.com readers, however, aren't quite as optimistic as the bookies: of the 40,000 readers to take part in the poll, 58% believe that Manchester United will progress to the quarter finals, with only 42% of the opinion that Madrid will come out on top in the Theatre of Dreams.
