Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova spoke to the press ahead of Sunday's La Liga clash against Real Betis (21:00 CET). As well as looking ahead to the match-up with Pepe Mel's men, Vilanova also reflected on Barça's Champions League disappointment against Bayern Munich - and the 'Azulgrana' boss sent a note of warning to defender Gerard Piqué, who had declared after elimination to Bayern: "We need to make decisions for next season".
Sunday's match: "It isn't a cup final, but it is very important to us. A victory would leave us looking good in La Liga. We're preparing for the match that way. We want to give the fans something to shout about."
Injury doubts Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets: "We'll see how they are tomorrow [Sunday] and what the medical staff's assessment is. I didn't speak to Leo after the session, but we shouldn't let things get out of proportion. He has had very few injuries and he feels comfortable when he's playing."
European loss against Bayern Munich: "We're hurt by the way they knocked us out. We didn't come into the tie in perfect shape and we had injuries. [But] what is ahead of us is positive. 11 points ahead and with five games to go: I'd take that every year if it was offered to me."
The squad's physical shape: "Last year things were also a bit tight coming to the end of the season. There's a part that you can't control, which is the injuries. This year, we've had fewer muscular injuries than in previous years. We've suffered more breaks and joint injuries."
Piqué's remarks after the Bayern defeat: "We don't need to make many changes to the team. The 'Dream Team' also won La Liga and lost in the Champions League to Milan. We have to think about things very hard. The team will be strengthened, as we had already planned. Perhaps the player who said that didn't think that he could be on the list of changes to the team... It'll be difficult to find players who fit into the Barça system, if we want to continue playing the same way."
Cesc Fàbregas: "He's a high-quality player. We were chasing him for a long time. Last season and this one he has been the second highest scorer in the squad. Sometimes a couple of whistles from the crowd sound noisier when the stadium is quiet. Cesc is very important to us."
Real Betis: "We respect [Betis coach] Pepe Mel's work. Their strikers always cause us a lot of problems. They're brave and are the second-highest goal-scorers away from home behind Barça and Madrid. We have to relish the opportunity to take a big step towards winning the title, a tournament we didn't win last year."
In a rush to seal the title: "There's no hurry, but the sooner we win it the better."
