The forthcoming Copa del Rey semi-final meeting between Real Madrid and Barcelona will be the 20th time the two sides have crossed paths in the domestic Cup competition. The two-legged tie, which will be played on 30th January and 27th February, will elevate the number of encounters between them in the history of the tournament to 32.
Up until now, the Whites and Azulgranas have faced off 31 times in the Copa del Rey. Those meetings include two clashes at the Round of 16 stage, five at the quarter-final stage and 13 during the semi-finals which includes two-legged ties, single knockout ties and replays.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have met several times during the various different eras of the Cup competition - once in the Copa de la Coronación (1902), six times in the Copa del Rey Alfonso XIII (1916-1926), once in the Copa de la República (1936), 14 times in the Copa del Generalísimo (1943-1974) and nine times in the present format, the Copa del Rey (1983-2012).
Matches: 15 Barça victories, 10 Madrid victories and six draws
Barcelona have the edge in terms of the number of victories from the total number of meetings. The Blaugranas have recorded 15 wins from 31 games played while Madrid have registered 10 victories and six have ended level.
Barça have progressed seven times, Real Madrid, six
In the meetings where a place in the next round is in play, Barcelona have remained in the tournament on seven occasions compared to the six times when it has been Real Madrid who have progressed.
Finals: three wins each
They have met six times in the Final itself and the results could not be more equal with the Cup ending up in the Camp Nou trophy cabinet on three occasions and on the other three occasions, it made its way back to the Santiago Bernabéu trophy room.
Goals: Barça have found the net more times than Madrid
In terms of goals scored in Madrid-Barça Cup meetings, it's the Catalans who come out on top, having found the net 14 times more than their opponents in the 31 meetings in the competition. The Azulgranas goal tally stands at 63 as opposed to the 49 goals scored by Madrid.
