Valencia did not want to have to get their calculators out to work out whether or not they would have a chance of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League, and after a perfect game against BATE Borisov they will not have to.

It was a perfect night for 'los ché' in the sense they managed to beat their opponents without reaching top gear and the result means they are three points clear of the Belarusian side in the race to qualify from Group E and also have the advantage in head-to-head, should both teams finish the group with the same number of points. They go into their final group games, at home to leaders Bayern Munich and away to bottom side Lille, knowing that a victory in either game will guarantee them a spot in the next round.

Valencia's play lacked a sense of urgency but they were always in control of the game and went in for the kill at the opportune moment.

Two goals in the space of two minutes midway through the first half, the first from Jonas, the second a penalty from Roberto Soldado, which he dedicated to his recently diseased grandmother, set the hosts on their way. Feghouli looked to have killed the game off in the second half but two goals in quick succession from the visitors put pressure on Valencia, before a second goal by Feghouli four minutes from the end made the points secure.
