Villarreal will reduce their team budget by 30 million euros for the 2012/13 season, after being relegated from Spain's top division last season. Despite this huge reduction in spending, they will still have the largest budget in the Segunda División A.
Fernando Roig, club president, said: "We will continue to put our faith in the club's youth players and our academy. We have a great project and we're not going to reduce any spending in these areas, not even by a penny."
Roig added: "We have always had the same objective: to stay afloat and not be indebted to anybody and that won't change now we are in the Segunda. Neither are we going to worry about other teams that can't afford to pay their players, we're just going to concern ourselves with paying ours."
The president also confirmed that Lluis Planagumá will be the new coach of Villarreal B for next season. The club's second team had to drop down a division after the first team were relegated, and will play 2012/13 in Segunda B, despite finishing in 12th position in Segunda A last season.
