Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuaín has said that the club "have to respect" the Spanish Football Federation's decision to hand Sergio Ramos a five match suspension after the centre-back insulted the referee and his assistant after he was sent off against Celta Vigo on Wednesday.

The Argentine stressed that the team needed to learn from their mistakes so they do not make them again and did not want to enter into a debate about whether the decision taken by the Federation was the right one.

"Sergio said sorry for the incident. It happened during a heated moment in the game and we hope it doesn't happen again. He is a vital player for us, we know how professional he is and we will try to make sure things like this don't happen again. It was the referee's decision and I'm not going to enter into a debate on it. The Federation has made the decision and we have to respect it."

Higuaín also spoke about his fitness, rumours linking Radamel Falcao to the Santiago Bernabéu, the team's spirit after the controversy created by José Mourinho dropping Iker Casillas, plus the game against Osasuna on Saturday in Pamplona.

Is he ready to start games? "I feel good. I had a tough two months out injured. I don't like being unable to play and I was feeling in good shape (before the injury). Now I'm ready to play again and I'm able to play 90 minutes".

The rumours about Falcao joining Madrid and if he could leave in the summer: "I am as relaxed as I was when I first arrived at this club. I have my mind focused on this team. Our aim is to win all three trophies, I am here for the team and I won't pay attention to rumours. I don't have to revindicate myself, I have been here for six years and everyone knows me. I just need to take advantage of all the minutes I play."

Absent players for the game against Osasuna: "Every player at the club is important and we cannot just worry about the players we'll be without. We have players that are good enough to get a result and we'll try to show that. It's always difficult to go to Pamplona, apart from last year (when Madrid won 5-1). It's a tough stadium to go to and Osasuna will make things difficult for us. We need the points, we're going to try and do our best there.

Higuaín won the league for Madrid in Pamplona in 2007-08, is the league over now?

"We are going to be realistic. It'll be very difficult but we have to keep on fighting. We have to go on a winning run and that's what will help us improve. Of course we want to regain our previous form, we have to return to the level we were playing at before."

Mourinho's future: "He's the coach of Real Madrid, he has a contract and I imagine he will stay on. But I'm not inside his head and I don't know what he will decide but I suppose he will carry on."

Champions League: "We have not even contemplated the idea of not winning the Champions League, that amazing tournament is in our hands and we're going to do everything we can to win it."

Desperate to get back to scoring: "Scoring a goal is the best thing for a striker and I hope I can get on the score-sheet again on Saturday. Being in good shape is the most important thing for me and I'm happy with my fitness at the moment. I hope I can score in my first game back."

Mourinho and Casillas: I'm not going to talk about that because the team is united now. We are all with Mourinho and we need to get behind him and he needs to support us. That's the only way we're going to win a trophy."

Cristiano's shooting: "He's always been great at shooting, he was known for it in his previous teams and he has a ferocious shot. You are not born with that quality, I'm sure Cristiano will keep on training every day so that he can get even better.

"Cristiano has had the support of the dressing room ever since he arrived. He has scored 175 goals in 173 games and he has a crucial role in the team. That is why he cost so much but he has shown he was worth it."

The Bernabéu booing the team: "Last year we had an amazing season, we played really well and scored a lot of goals. We have dropped a gear this season and it seems alarming but this is football, it changes a lot and there's still four or five months left in the season, and we really want to achieve something."

The team spirit: "The dressing room is united, without a doubt. I'm there every day and I haven't seen anyone arguing with anyone, we have to be united now more than ever. "
