Sergio Ramos was visibly disgruntled after Real Madrid's 3-2 defeat to Málaga at La Rosaleda. The defeat leaves Madrid 16 points behind leaders Barcelona, and seven behind local rivals Atlético Madrid.
"When you don't win people come to many conclusions, but we have to keep calm and not make declarations in the heat of the moment," said the centre-back after the game.
"The truth is that we are not thinking about the league leaders or anyone else, we only need to think about ourselves. The league is almost impossible now but Madrid need to keep on fighting."
Ramos played as a striker at the end of the game, a move he defended by saying "when the result is not going your way you have to try everything".
The Andalusian added that Mourinho's decision to leave Iker Casillas out came as a shock to the team.
"We were surprised, Iker is the captain. It wasn't our decision and we have to accept it. It was a surprise, because it's unusual for Iker not to play. He is the leader in our dressing room and a key part of the team."
Ramos, who himself was dropped unexpectedly against Manchester City in September, was cautious when asked whether Mourinho was involved in a dispute with Casillas, saying: "After what happened to me, I am not going to talk about tugs of war between anyone."
Finally, Ramos was asked whether he thought the league was over, as Mourinho has stated, or whether he thought Madrid should never give in, as Florentino Pérez declared last week.
"Stop trying to cause controversy," he responded. "We are all here to win. We have not picked up as many points as we should have done and we have to reflect why and analyse our performances, but we have not lacked ambition or enthusiasm."
