Espanyol coach Javier Aguirre told the press on Saturday that his team will be attempting to take all three points off Atlético de Madrid when the two sides meet in the capital tomorrow evening. He told reporters, "We won't be going into the Vicente Calderón like a wolf in sheep's clothing - we will be going out to win with the knowledge that we have to have 100 per cent concentration. We cannot afford to skimp on the smallest detail".

The Mexican added that whilst he feels quietly optimistic, he is aware that it will be extremely difficult to steal a victory from an Atleti side who are on a roll in the domestic league. "They have the best home record and are second in the table so we know what we are up against. We must try not to concede too many corners; it's going to be an intense game, played at a furious pace and without any breaks in the game. We are in for a battle," he continued.

Espanyol are unbeaten in their last six outings but Aguirre remains cautious, saying, "Our aim is simply to extend the distance which separates us from the relegation places. We don't believe that we are safe yet".

The coach ended with complimentary words for the man who will be sat on the opposing bench on Sunday, Diego Simeone. "His figures and what he has achieved so far is amazing. I think he is going to remembered for a very long time as a club legend, like Luis Aragonés and I think it would be a very shrewd move to amplify his contract by another four years", he ended.
